Overview

In White Cloud Security (WCS), an Organization (Org) is a foundational unit that represents a real-world entity such as a company, department, or managed customer. Organizations are used to define administrative ownership, user access boundaries, trust groupings, and system-wide policy segmentation.

WCS supports both Real Organizations and Virtual Organizations, allowing flexibility for both identity-based control and dynamic grouping.

Real Organizations

Real Organizations are explicitly created using:

  • Org Name — Primary name of the organization (e.g., Acme Corp)
  • Org Label — Optional label to distinguish subdivisions (e.g., Main Account)
  • Org Domain Name — A unique domain (e.g., acme.com) used to identify ownership
  • Org Alert Email Address — Where system alerts and notifications are sent

Benefits

  • Defines the root entity for security policy ownership and inheritance
  • Enables user assignment and Primary Org identity for login scoping
  • Routes system alerts to responsible parties
  • Serves as a container for trust, access, and reporting

Virtual Organizations

Virtual Organizations allow administrators to group multiple Security Groups across the Inheritance Tree for reporting and view-only access, without affecting trust inheritance.

These are useful for:

  • Grouping related assets across branches (e.g., all devices for a specific client)
  • Enabling Org-level dashboards and reports
  • Providing read-only access for auditors or delegated views
